A Comparison between Children's and Adults' Ability to Detect Conceptual Information Conveyed through Representational Gestures.
Kelly, Spencer D.; Church, R. Breckinridge
Child Development, v69 n1 p85-93 Feb 1998
Compared 18 children's and 18 adults' ability to detect information conveyed through the representational hand gestures of videotaped children verbally and gesturally explaining their problem-solving reasoning. Found that children and adults recalled information conveyed through representational gestures. Mismatching gesture negatively affected the precision of adult's but not children's speech recall.
