Wanting To Be It: Children's Understanding of Intentions Underlying Pretense.
Lillard, Angeline S.
Child Development, v69 n4 p981-93 Aug 1998
Five experiments tested whether children understand pretense intentions before they understand pretense mental representations. Findings revealed that children did not understand that intention is crucial to pretense. Various methodological factors that might have compromised results such as force choice versus yes-no questions or using a pictureboard as a mnemonic were examined, but to no effect. (Author/KB)
