Intrapersonal and Maternal Correlates of Aggression, Conflict, and Externalizing Problems in Toddlers.
Rubin, Kenneth H.; Hastings, Paul; Chen, Xinyin; Stewart, Shannon; McNichol, Kevin
Child Development, v69 n6 p1614-29 Dec 1998
Examined factors associated with young children's aggression. Observed 104 toddlers during free play with same-sex peer, with both mothers present. Found that early out-of-home care was not related to aggression. Boys were more aggressive than girls. Observed aggression and mother-reported externalizing problems were associated significantly with dysregulated temperament only for boys with mothers who demonstrated relatively high negative dominance.
