The Relation between Mothers' Hostile Attribution Tendencies and Children's Externalizing Behavior Problems: The Mediating Role of Mothers' Harsh Discipline Practices.
Nix, Robert L.; And Others
Child Development, v70 n4 p896-909 Jul-Aug 1999
Examined relationships among mothers' hostile attribution tendencies regarding their children's ambiguous problem behaviors, mothers' harsh discipline, and children's externalizing behavior problems. Assessments over four years demonstrated that mothers' hostile attributions predicted children's externalizing school behavior problems. The relationship was mediated by mothers' harsh discipline. Findings were unchanged after controlling for children's initial externalizing behavior problems at home. (Author/KB)
