The Role of an Early Intervention on Enhancing the Quality of Mother-Infant Interaction.
Wendland-Carro, Jaqueline; Piccinini, Cesar A.; Millar, W. Stuart
Child Development, v70 n3 p713-21 May-Jun 1999
Evaluated an intervention designed to influence mothers' sensitive responsiveness toward their infant by presenting information about the newborn's competence to interact and promoting affectionate handling and interaction. Found that the enhancement group showed greater frequency of co-occurrences involving vocal exchanges, looking to the partner, and physical contact. Also found differences in mothers' responsiveness to infant crying and involuntary responses. (Author/KB)
