Children "Tune Out" in Response to the Ambiguous Communication Style of Powerless Adults.
Bugental, Daphne Blunt; Lyon, Judith E.; Lin, Eta K.; McGrath, Emily P.; Bimbela, Alfred
Child Development, v70 n1 p214-30 Jan-Feb 1999

Results suggested that adult ambiguity (more characteristic of those with perception of low power) leads to reductions in children's attentional engagement. (Author/KB)
