Representation of Self and Socioemotional Competence in Kindergartners: Differential and Combined Effects of Attachment to Mother and to Father.
Verschueren, Karine; Marcoen, Alfons
Child Development, v70 n1 p183-201 Jan-Feb 1999
Examined the differential predictive power and effects of representations of child/mother and child/father attachment for children's representation of self and socioemotional competence. Found that the child's positiveness of self was better predicted by quality of child/mother attachment representation than child/father attachment representation. Anxious/withdrawn behavioral problems were better predicted by quality of the child/father attachment representation than child/mother attachment representation. (Author/KB)
