The Relationship between Classroom Quality and Ratings of the Social Functioning of Head Start Children.
Lambert, Richard; Abbott-Shim, Martha; McCarty, Frances
Early Child Development and Care, v172 n3 p231-45 Jun 2002
Examined social behaviors of Head Start children from high- or low-quality classrooms in urban or rural settings. Found that maternal depression related to fewer parent-reported positive social behaviors and more problem behaviors. Parent-reported home violence related to fewer teacher-reported disruptive behaviors. Higher quality classrooms had lower parent-reported child problem behaviors. Teachers who interacted less positively with children tended to rate children as more compliant. (Author/KB)
