Preparing for Primary School in Singapore--Aspects of Adjustment to the More Formal Demands of the Primary One Mathematics Syllabus.
Sharpe, Pamela
Early Child Development and Care, v172 n4 p329-35 Aug 2002
This longitudinal study examined Singapore children's transition from preschool to primary school. The study identified the nature of parental support for numeracy development. Findings indicated that parents invest much time and effort in preparing children for primary school and see it as essential for accessing entry to a meritocratic educational system geared toward raising global economic competitiveness through an ability-driven curriculum.
