Mother-Child Conflict in the Toddler Years: Lessons in Emotion, Morality, and Relationships.
Laible, Deborah J.; Thompson, Ross A.
Child Development, v73 n4 p1187-1203 Jul-Aug 2002
This 6-month prospective study examined how differences in the frequency and nature of early mother-toddler conflict at 30 months related to individual differences in children's socioemotional development at 36 months. Findings indicated that mothers' use of justification, resolution, and mitigation in conflict at 30 months during laboratory tasks and a 1.5-hour home observation predicted high levels of socioemotional development at age 3.
