Families Define Quality Pre-Kindergarten Programs More Broadly than Educators, Researchers and Policy Makers. FPG Snapshot #36
FPG Child Development Institute
Education policy makers identify access to quality pre-Kindergarten programs as a critical step in early childhood development. While most agree on access, definitions of quality vary widely. A new study by the National Center for Early Development & Learning (NCEDL) finds that families define quality in broader terms than educators, researchers and policymakers. This "snapshot" describes the findings from that study. It presents the study background and summarizes how parents define quality and how they choose a pre-K program. ["FPG Snapshots" are summaries of research articles, books, and other publications by researchers at the FPG Child Development Institute at UNC-Chapel Hill.]
