Us/Them, Me/You: Who? (Re)Thinking the Binary of First Nations and Non-First Nations.
Calliou, Sharilyn
Canadian Journal of Native Education, v22 n1 p28-52 1998
The socially constructed binary of "First Nations" and "non-First Nations" (with various related names and labels) is concerned with issues of belonging, entitlement, representation, and autonomy. Although necessary to explain longstanding geopolitical, spiritual, and economic injustices, the binary obscures nuanced understandings of class and gender and contradicts traditional teachings about the oneness of humanity.
