Classroom and School Factors Affecting Mathematics Achievement: A Comparative Study of Australia and the United States Using TIMSS.
Lamb, Stephen; Fullarton, Sue
Australian Journal of Education, v46 n2 p154-71 Aug 2002
Used data from the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) to look at student, classroom, and school factors influencing mathematics achievement in Australia and the United States. Found that classroom differences account for about one-third of the variation in student achievement in the United States and over one-quarter in Australia. Most classroom variation was due to compositional and organizational factors and little to differences between teachers. (EV)
