Craft in America: A Journey to the Artists, Origins and Work of American Craft
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v107 n3 p18-19 Nov 2007
Quilting, the tradition of stitching together layers of fabric and padding, probably began as a way to provide protection in clothing, but one most often associates quilts with the warmth and comfort of bedding. As so often happens with objects created for a particular purpose, quilts have come to be valued, not only for their function, but also for their appearance. This article traces the origin of quilt making and discusses how to engage students in making a quilt.
