Art A to Z
Holonitch, Roxanne M.
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v107 n1 p40-41 Aug-Sep 2007
In this article, the author shares how she develops a curriculum that allows many creative opportunities and builds on the art vocabulary of her fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students. She calls this year-long curriculum "Art A to Z." At the start of the year, she gives a project packet to each student in each class. Each page represents a letter. They begin each new project, or letter, the same way. Students work together to collect as many art words that start with that letter. On the next class, students begin working on the project. The amount of classes dedicated to each project varies depending on its complexity. To finish the year, they have an exciting game of Art Jeopardy, where clues to the many new words learned are given and the students must identify them. The author believes this curriculum is not meant only for art class. This plan can be used for any discipline. Foreign language, music, and science can also plan with this idea.
