My House Is a Home
Hulse, Grace
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v106 n8 p32-33 Apr 2007
Children are naturally worried and concerned when catastrophic events such as Hurricane Katrina occur. Parents and teachers look for ways to help them deal with their fears and emotions. This article describes a project which was designed to help fifth-grade students think about what is really important in their lives and make sense of what they were hearing and seeing on the news. In this project, each fifth-grader designs a fabric house quilt square to serve as a symbol for their home. This project also gave them a chance to share their thoughts and feelings about families and home through writing and visual expression. (Contains 1 online resource.)
