The Children's Carnival
Stokrocki, Mary
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v107 n5 p40-41 Jan 2008
The idea of "taking art education to the streets" is important for making art education more visible in the community. Such arts-based events demonstrate the value of the arts in the community. As education moves from the classroom into the streets through the media of art, music, and performance, participants build solidarity and identity. Components of community-based art education include: learning about, taking from, and acting upon art. Carnival in Barcelona is one such art-based community event. (Contains 2 online resources.)
