The Bingham Poster Project
Cameron, Louise
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v108 n6 p46-47 Feb 2009
Missouri artist George Caleb Bingham (1811-1879) was both a painter and a politician. An exhibition of his work at the Saint Louis Art Museum in the fall of 2007 sponsored by Bank of America featured his painting "The County Election" along with its preparatory drawings. In anticipation of the exhibition, the museum's education department received generous funding from the sponsor to create a poster of Bingham's painting to be distributed to public schools throughout Missouri. Through this poster, teachers in Missouri classrooms are able to introduce the painting to their students and talk about issues of Bingham's time and their own. (Contains 1 online resource.)
