It Takes a Village
Kuharic, Pam
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v110 n1 p31 Aug-Sep 2010
This article describes an art project that allows students to create a joint community on paper. Through this project, students create imaginary villages by looking first at various architectural styles and then look at the different ways contemporary artists portray communities or architecture focusing on village scenes. The inspiration for this project came from the author's vacation to Amelia Island in Florida. While visiting galleries there, the author noticed that quite a few artists depicted quaint seaside cottages in various ways, using color in a bright "fauvist" style giving the cottages a happy, carefree, tropical feel.
