Batik Designs
Henn, Cynthia
School Arts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v103 n6 p48 Feb 2004
In this article, the author describes a unit she implemented on Batik designs. This unit helped second-graders gain an understanding of the batik process while learning about mask designs and the Senegalese culture. Batik has origins in many areas around the world, including Indonesia and West Africa. This fabric-resist process involves the application of many layers of wax, starch, paraffin, or even mud to prevent colored dyes from penetrating the fabric.
