Choosing Good Websites
Webber, Nancy
School Arts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v103 n5 p50 Jan 2004
Many art teachers use the Web as an information source. Overall, they look for good content that is clearly written concise, accurate, and pertinent. A well-designed site gives users what they want quickly, efficiently, and logically, and does not ask them to assemble a puzzle to resolve their search. How can websites with these qualities be found? It depends on how the search is conducted. Web designing is a cyclical process of strategy planning based on a thorough needs assessment, including a clear identification of the audience, development of accurate content, and sensitivity to human interactions with information. Good web designers and architects know the most efficient ways to present information electronically. Whether surfing or researching websites, creating them for presentations of personal artwork, or having students develop them as class projects, keep in mind that the aim should always be clear communication. It should be demanded of websites that one accesses, as well as those one produces.
