School Arts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v104 n4 p45 Dec 2004
Photography is often overlooked in schools. Elizabeth Sio secured a grant to pay for disposable cameras and processing so she could introduce students to photography and the multiple viewpoint photographs of David Hockney. This article describes a lesson in which student would become an expert in one area and then impart that knowledge to their home group. The expert groups summarized their material, came up with an instructional strategy and a visual aid, and returned to the home groups to teach others. In this lesson, students used subjects, themes, and symbols that demonstrate knowledge of contexts, values, and aesthetics that communicate intended meaning in artworks.
