Facing up to Body Art: "As Soon as I Turn Eighteen, I'm Getting a Tattoo"
Strauch-Nelson, Wendy
School Arts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v104 n1 p48 Sep 2004
In this article, the author discusses a lesson she did in one of her high school classes about body art and tattoos. She wanted to explore the reasons for high schoolers wanting tattoos and supply those teenagers with some background and facts about body art in terms of origins, meaning, and permanence. The author feels the time spent on the study of body art is justified as long as students begin to understand the tradition in a wider context than simply a way to spend one's eighteenth birthday.
