Projected Identities
Anderson, Mark Alan
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v106 n2 p23-25 Oct 2006
This article presents the idea behind Projected Identities, an art activity wherein students fuse art-making processes and digital image manipulations in a series of exploratory artistic self-examinations. At some point in every person's life they've been told something hard to forget. Students might, for example, translate phrases like, "Good job!" from a memory into a powerfully designed hand-cut linoleum block. Students continue the process with a "projection" self-portrait in which a digital projector is used to cast the image of the hand-lettered phrase over the face. The projected montage is then recorded with a digital camera.
