Identifying Key Dimensions of Language and Cultural Disadvantage at University.
Borland, Helen; Pearce, Amanda
Australian Review of Applied Linguistics, v25 n2 p101-27 2002
Argues that non-English language background (NELB) students' academic needs and potential difficulties are best understood by focusing on particular parameters of two key dimensions of their life experience: English language acquisition history and cultural experience. Using contrasting case studies from a university in Australia, illustrates how these dimensions enable the conceptualization of the broad range of university experience of these students.
