During his years in Chicago, while working with teacher advocate Ella Flagg Young, John Dewey wrote incisively about teachers and the political constraints that limit their effectiveness. After he left Chicago in 1904, his writings largely ignored teachers, focusing on the aims of education in a democratic society. (Author/SLD)
