Collective Responsibility for Learning and Its Effects on Gains in Achievement for Early Secondary School Students.
Lee, Valerie E.; Smith, Julia B.
American Journal of Education, v104 n2 p103-47 Feb 1996
Studies how the organization of teachers' work affects students in their early years of high school. Results from 11,692 students and 9,904 teachers show significant achievement gains in schools where teachers take collective responsibility for students' academic success or failure rather than blaming students for their own failure. Achievement gains were also higher in schools with more staff cooperation. (GR)
