The Effect of Personal/Social Skills Lessons: The Missing Link in Prevention Curricula on Urban Middle School Student Tobacco Use.
Dalis, Gus T.; Dodd, Glenn R.
American Journal of Health Education, v32 n4 p199-205 Jul-Aug 2001
Assessed the effectiveness of personal and social skills development lessons on urban and suburban middle school students' tobacco-related behavior and behavioral intention. Results suggest that when taught with fidelity, the intervention provides students with skills to resist certain health- compromising behaviors. Experimental students showed no expected increases in tobacco use, while control students demonstrated significant increases. (SM)
