Success and Diversity: The Transition through First-Year Calculus in the University.
Moreno, Susan E.; Muller, Chandra
American Journal of Education, v108 n1 p30-57 Nov 1999
Analyzes the influence of calculus performance on choosing a mathematics, science, or engineering (MSE) major, noting the role of diverse students' participation in the Emerging Scholars Program (ESP), which helps strengthen calculus performance and encourage persistence in MSE. Findings suggest that ESP students earn higher calculus grades than other students and are more likely to enroll in second-semester calculus. (SM)
