Comparisons for Minnesota's class of 1977 supported the hypothesis that clinical pharmacy students become more receptive to pharmacy administrations skills and services as they gain clinical experience, especially in consultation services. Comparisons with the class of 1976 failed to support the hypothesis, however. (LBH)

The experience gained in three semesters with three students in an internship program for future pharmacy professors is reported. Students spent the equivalent of about one work day a week on the course, each completed two or more special projects incorporated into the department, and participated in departmental activities and meetings. A simulation experiment for the dissolution kinetics of steroids is described whose goals are to demonstrate the characteristics of the physical-chemical model for dissolution and to relate the physical-chemical model to the potential therapeutic availability of the drug. The experiment described was developed for the third-year course in inorganic and analytical pharmaceutical chemistry to provide students with "hands-on" experience with high pressure liquid chromatography. Assay procedures are given along with experimental parameters and student results. (LBH)

Advantages and disadvantages of commonly used forms of measurement are reviewed, and an approach for assessing overall competence of the pharmacy student is discussed conceptually, based on a multiple-measurement method involving review of student performance in real practice contexts and observation in simulations of practice. An examination of professional pharmacy literature was undertaken to determine types of statistical terminology and analyses presented and compare these with the results of a survey to determine the statistical backgrounds of graduates of schools that grant the Doctor of Pharmacy and/or Master of Science in Hospital Pharmacy. Although a literature review indicates a dissatisfaction of pharmacists with pharmacy education, a survey of registered pharmacists in Oklahoma, conducted to determine the attitudes and perceptions of practicing pharmacists, indicates that the majority of respondents have a favorable attitude toward current pharmacy education.
