Evaluative studies of experiential education in pharmacy are reviewed, and a holistic approach to evaluation, including a model, is presented. The conceptual model includes content analysis of the course material, and instruments for assessing cognitive and affective domains and analysis and application of skills. (SW)

The development and use of a bank of test items, utilizing the Rasch model in the calibration and scaling of these test items, is described. A survey of 357 newly graduated pharmacists and 270 graduate pharmacy students showed economic motives were more often indicated by the former and intrinsic job attributes more frequently cited by the latter as reasons for deciding whether or not to pursue graduate study. A survey of 422 pharmacists assessed the perceived importance of 19 major practice activities and pharmacists' perceived level of competence to perform them on graduation. All activities were seen as more important than perceived competence level at graduation, with greatest disparity in management. Sex, age, and practice type were considered.…
