Exploring Teaching Roles and Responsibilities in Adult Literacy Education: Do Teachers See Themselves as Transformative Educators?
Magro, Karen
Perspectives: The New York Journal of Adult Learning, v1 n1 p21-33 2002-2003
Interviews with 12 adult educators in English and English as a second language revealed that most were not aware of transformative learning, Freire's critical theory, or Mezirow's perspective transformation. They were also aware of the need to balance teaching ideals with practicalities, barriers facing students, and negotiation between learner needs and institutional parameters was also apparent.
