Practical Techniques in the Teaching of Oral English. Volumes 1 and 2.
Dunlop, Ian
The techniques in this two-volume book are those developed by the author during the past 12 years at the British Centre in Stockholm. Volume 1 contains descriptions of the various techniques of teaching oral English; Volume 2 gives examples of the actual teaching material used to show how these techniques work in practice. The second volume, printed separately for facility in reference, should be consulted in conjunction with the reading of the first volume. These two volumes are designed to help new teachers of English as a foreign language by not only discussing how to teach English to foreigners but also by showing in concrete form what lesson notes and materials are suited to this purpose. Included in the chapter topics are: linguistics, language, learning and teaching; principles of language teaching; teaching adults and beginners; teaching grammar, dialogues, vocabulary, conversation, games and songs, and literature; programmed learning; and instructional aids.
