Educational software can be an effective way for teens to enhance their learning skills in out-of-school settings. Many software programs provide subject-specific content and tools to support conceptual learning and skills development. They allow for individual, self-paced learning experiences as well as collaborative projects. In addition, educational software often includes support for instructors, such as teacher guides and supplementary materials. This toolkit is designed to help CTC staff members locate and evaluate software that is both appropriate for high school students and suited to CTC settings. It provides a process for assessing both the needs of learners and instructors and the educational value of different software programs. The toolkit also features a review of the most common types of educational software available today, including software designed to support Mathematics and ELA learning for low-achieving high school students. Finally, it includes a list of resources for locating and evaluating additional educational materials.
