This guide is intended for use with students enrolled in cooperative occupational home economics programs. The following topics are covered in the individual modules: the basic principles of cooperative home economics; preparation for the world of work (choosing, finding, applying for, and exploring a job); safety, security, and sanitation (on and off the job); personality development (personality traits and job attitudes, the role of personality, effective communication, self-image); the role of government (the philosophy underlying taxation, federal and state income taxes, and social security services); income management (financial planning, savings and investments, banking services, credit, the importance of insurance, and good consumer practices); relations with employers and coworkers (employee responsibilities, employer responsibilities and expectations, and interpersonal relationships); progress on the job (pay increases and promotions, factors that influence productivity, training and education on and beyond the job, and entrepreneurship); and the place of the individual in the community (good citizenship and community organizations). Each module contains a list of basic skills that are taught and/or reinforced in the module, performance objectives, suggested learning activities, evaluation techniques, and suggested references and resources.
