The Impact of Sleep on Learning and Behavior in Adolescents.
Mitru, Georgios; Millrood, Daniel L.; Mateika, Jason H.
Teachers College Record, v104 n4 p704-26 Jun 2002
Many adolescents experience sleep deprivation due to such factors as academic workload and social and employment opportunities. The ability to effectively interact with peers while learning and processing new information may be diminished in sleep deprived adolescents. Some school districts are changing school start times to allow students more sleep. In some cases, underlying sleep disorders affect students' daytime performance. (SM)
