This four-part booklet is the result of a project with four goals: (1) familiarize physical educators in Illinois with the four items of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) Health Related Physical Fitness Test; (2) design materials regarding implementation strategies for health related fitness that could be readily delivered to practitioners via inservice workshops; (3) devise a computer record keeping service that could be made available to all physical educators in Illinois; and (4) provide a normative health related physical fitness database for kindergarten through twelfth grade students in Illinois. Part I of this booklet presents descriptions of the four items of the AAHPERD Health Related Physical Fitness test: distance runs, sum of skinfolds, modified sit-ups, and sit and reach. In part II, implementation strategies for health related fitness are described. Included in this section are outlines of discussion items for two AAHPERD workshops. The names and addresses of contact persons for delivery of the workshops in eight Illinois districts are listed. A description is given in part III of the development of a computerized report system which has been devised for consolidating data on fitness test results in the state. Part IV presents tables which delineate the health related physical fitness percentile norms for youth in the state of Illinois which were compiled during the years 1980-82. (JD)
