The Augmented Efficacy of PBS Implementation
Yergat, Jessica Djabrayan
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, California State University, Fresno
This study presents empirical data on the implementation of exemplar PBS systems. The purpose of this study was to identify the key factors that support and impede PBS implementation and approaches that support transporting model PBS implementation. In addition, this study identified and evaluated the ratings of each PBS school category (e.g., emerging, intermediate, bronze, silver, and gold). This design included (a) case studies of 10 schools using interviews from PBS team members and BoQ scores when available, (b) PBS observation data, (c) interview from the Model PBS District Coordinator, and (d) analysis of Q-sort data. This study presents a practical resource that will help guide successful implementation of PBS systems in schools and districts and will help support student academic learning and behavior in those schools. The findings from this study indicate that administrative support is the key factor in PBS implementation and that lack of time is the impeding factor in PBS implementation. In addition, the findings from this study indicate having a model PBS criterion to attain bronze, silver, and gold level PBS implementation is a critical factor in transporting and sustaining model PBS systems throughout a district.
