AP Courses Get Audited for Quality
Ashford, Ellie
Education Digest: Essential Readings Condensed for Quick Review, v72 n7 p25-28 Mar 2007
As the college admissions process has gotten much more competitive, the number of high school students taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses has soared. At the same time, policymakers and education leaders seek to get more minorities and students not on the college track to sign up for AP and other rigorous classes. But as high schools have greatly expanded their AP programs, some are questioning the quality of courses labeled AP. Concerns about AP courses being watered down has led the College Board, which supervises the end-of-course AP exams, to investigate. This article discusses the audit procedure established by the College Board to ensure AP courses meet certain standards.
