A Sociological Approach to the Social Integration of Hearing-Impaired and Normally Hearing Students.
Lee, Carolyn; Antia, Shirin
Volta Review, v94 n4 p425-34 Sep 1992
This paper describes Gordon Allport's contact theory (which contrasts effects of casual contact and contact leading to acquaintanceship) and the findings of social integration research. Theories are applied to fostering true social integration of hearing-impaired students being educated in mainstream settings. Educators are urged to maximize contacts likely to lead to acquaintanceship. (DB)
