Investigated social forces interacting with sex and race to produce variations in feelings of same-sex closeness. College student surveys showed little variation by race and sex. Males and females differed in how they related to the same sex, but not in the significance of this bonding. A weak positive relationship existed between same-sex bonding and attitudes toward mate prospects. (SM)
