This manual was developed for use at workshops designed to introduce operators to the fundamentals of sewage plant operation. The course consists of lecture-discussions and hands-on activities. Each of the lessons has clearly stated behavioral objectives to tell the trainee what he should know or do after completing that topic. Areas covered in this manual include: introduction to sewage treatment, bacteriology, primary treatment, activated sludge process, sampling and record keeping, safety, and selected tests.
