Hiring and Retaining Direct-Care Staff: After Fifty Years of Research, What Do We Know?.
Hall, Philip S.; Hall, Nancy D.
Mental Retardation, v40 n3 p201-11 Jun 2002
This literature review finds that efforts since the 1950s to develop research-based selection tools for recruiting direct-care staff to work with people with developmental disabilities have not been successful. However, researchers have identified practices that can reduce staff turnover, such as articulating the mission and improving human resource practices. Utilizing situational questions is suggested to improve hiring. (Contains references.) (DB)
