Effective Secretarial Education: National Business Education Yearbook, No. 12.
Coleman, Marion G., Ed.; Henson, Oleen M., Ed.
Thirty-two authors, most of them university teachers, express differing points of view on the subject of secretarial education. The readings have been organized around seven topics. Part 1 "The Businessman Looks at Secretarial Education," contains a single reading. Parts 2 and 3 offer more than a dozen examples of new thinking in shorthand and typewriting teaching methodology. The fourth part presents four approaches to secretarial office training: individualized, cooperative, laboratory, and simulation. Part 5, dealing with collegiate secretarial education, offers ideas on philosophy, facilities, media use, evaluation, and teacher competencies. The significance in the classroom of contemporary research in typewriting, shorthand, and office practice is discussed by authors in Part 6, as well as the perceptions of secretarial workers. The final section of the book describes six professional associations of secretaries. (AJ)
