Neuroimaging techniques are becoming not only more and more sophisticated but are also coming to be increasingly accessible to researchers. One thing that one should take note of is the potential of neuroimaging research within second language acquisition (SLA) to contribute to issues pertaining to the plasticity of the adult brain and to general issues of relevance to the field of cognitive neuroscience. In this article, the author discusses some of the issues that are important in considering the neuroimaging of SLA. This article also aims to acquaint the reader with the most commonly used neuroimaging techniques: electroencephalography (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) as well as introducing one less-used technique: magnetoencephalography (MEG).
