The Lived Experience of How Adult Nursing Students Blend Lifestyle Obligations with Nursing School Expectations

Many adult nursing students have lifestyle obligations that require integration with nursing school programs in order to graduate and fulfill their dreams of becoming a nurse. Fourteen participants shared their stories of how they were able to blend their lifestyles commitments with nursing school. Student interaction between lifestyle obligations and nursing school create actual situated learning environments that allow for the creation of specific or contextual learning experience. This phenomenological study investigated how these participants were able to blends their lifestyle commitments with nursing school expectations. Eight themes emerged that were essential to the identification of that lived experience or phenomenon. This phenomenon or lived experience could enhance the adult nursing student learning experience within higher educational program and assist other stakeholders in understanding the needs of the adult nursing student.
