The Effect of Performance Cues on Beginning Indoor Rock Climbing Performance
McNamee, Jeff; Steffen, Jeff
Physical Educator, v64 n1 p2-10 Win 2007
The primary purpose of this study was to examine the effects of performance cues on beginning indoor rock climbers. A secondary purpose was to create a content analysis for the skill of indoor rock climbing. The utility of performance cues has been demonstrated from a pedagogical perspective in traditional physical activity settings. However, no investigations have demonstrated the strength of performance cues in unique environments such as indoor rock climbing. A treatment group received performance cues while rock climbing; a control group received no cues. The results of the 2 x 2 x 2 (group x gender x test) ANOVA RM demonstrated that participants in the treatment group made significant performance gains over the control group.
