Some of the difficult problems related to introducing greater accountability for teaching were assessed and tentative policies considered at a British conference on higher education held in April 1975. R.C. Tress, Peter Kennedy, R. Rickett, Tom Driver, Marcus Merriman, and Alastair Stewart are the authors of the first set of papers entitled "National Policy on Evaluation." Woodbury; and "The Evaluation of Teaching--Some Comments," by Alex Main. The final section, "Case Studies," includes: "Student Perceptions of BSc Prelims. at Sussex" by Michael Eraut; "Report on a Study of Staff Perceptions of Promotion Procedures and the Role of the University Teacher," by Richard Startup; "Student Evaluation of Teaching at North East London Polytechnic," by Philip S.
