What Websites Are on My Favorite List?
Risinger, C. Frederick
Social Education, v72 n3 p156-158 2008
This column highlights websites that the author thinks are interesting, well designed, and useful to classroom teachers, college-level methods instructors, and other social studies professionals. When reviewing these websites mostly the author tries to look at them through the eyes of a classroom teacher. Does it have relevant, accurate information? Would it help a classroom teacher in his or her preparation for a topic? Could a teacher's students use information on the site? Is it suitable for group project work? Is it easy to navigate? These questions (and others) help determine what sites the author selects. Web sites highlighted in the column include: Social Studies Classroom; Free Rice; The Drudge Report; Public Broadcasting System and The PBS Online NewsHour Extra; Education Week; American Memory; Digital History; Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL); and Awesome Library.
