Multicultural Women's History: A Curriculum Unit for the Elementary Grades.
Tomin, Barbara; Burgoa, Carol
This guide offers a curriculum unit for elementary schools to help increase student awareness of multicultural women's history. The unit contains five short biographies of women from different ethnic backgrounds. The women featured are Mary Shadd Cary, Frances Willard, Tye Leung Schulze, Felisa Rincon de Gautier, and Ada Deer. Vocabulary exercises and follow-up excercises at the end of each biography provide students an opportunity to build their skills in language arts and critical thinking. The curriculum guide offers learning activities for various ability levels so teachers can add flexibility to the classroom. Additional activities include art, mathematics, and "extender" projects. A 13-item list of related curriculum resources concludes the guide. (JAG)
